About Shek Kwu Chau
In 1961, a group of social elites led by the late Brook Bernacchi QC to set up SARDA at SKC for purpose of treating the drug addicts. The cause was and still is a noble one. Combating drugs abuse is a long term goal and certainly it is not the kind of top-of-the-pop to be sung and then receded away. Drug abuse is a serious problem otherwise it would not have been that to have the secretary for justice headed the students urine test campaign several years ago. In my recent inspection, I have found SKC a perfect place for continuing this mission and indeed the operation should be expanded and scaled up. I just don’t find it right for the present govt to somehow change her stance. Instead of standing firm for the policy, she is now seen to sabotage the same by allowing the world largest incinerator to be built in SKC. Does it mean that all the drug addicts are to be treated at par with the rubbish and to be disposed of altogether by incineration? Sir David calls me “radical” at his birthday dinner this evening and he asked me to save SKC which I feel I am obliged to do!
