Good friends of mine from time to time spring on me with their words of wisdom. Here it is a good piece from the Vietnamese High Monk via the good writing of Roderick to his bosom friend, Anthony.
“Dear Anthony,
You made your point clearly although it is difficult for me to understand how a poet can hate philosophy.
Like most people (99%?) in Hong Kong, we tend to get too caught up in our work and busy routines, putting out fires (figuratively speaking) and making a living (good living) that we run the risk of forgetting our true identity and what’s really important in life.
The Vietnamese monk who recently visited Hong Kong reminded us again of the importance of breathing – a far more important act than any other we do in life. He urges us to breathe consciously and conscientiously. Take time during the day, even if just for short moments, to take a walk, read/listen to something inspiring (books, music etc.) or meditate and generally let go of our troubles (they will go away in any case in good time). I try to heed and remember his advice.
With kind regards,
Roderick “
