Dr. Vincent Cheng did an experiment in PMH. He sampled the air, using a special machine, 10cm from the first patient diagnosed with nCOVID-2019, and found no virus in the air breathed out by the patient who breathed normally, breathed deeply, talked or coughed with the surgical mask on. The experiment was repeated with the patient off mask, and the result was also negative.
Throat swab, nasopharyngeal aspirate and throat saliva samples all grew 10^6 titre of the virus, which was a moderate to high amount.
However, environmental sampling did find virus on the window edge, where the cleaner didn’t often clean. No virus was found in the patient’s immediate environment like bed rails, bedside cupboard, as cleaners cleaned those areas everyday.
Therefore, keep vigilant in disinfecting stuff we often touch, wash our hands often, and remind ourselves not to touch our eyes and noses.
