Project B
I am proposing to the Government to build and establish “The Golden Route”, which is a cycling lane from Tsuen Wan Belvedere Garden to Sam Shing at Castle Peak Road.
Cycling is one of the greatest methods of exercise and it helps people to keep healthy and to stay fit both physically and mentally. It is also an excellent way to enjoy Hong Kong’s natural beauty by riding through scenic landscapes. Apart from the health benefits and the enjoyment of cycling in Hong Kong, cycling is also extremely environmentally friendly as it does not pollute, thus keeping the air clean and it is a carbon-free exercise so it is a great alternative transport for short distance travelling.
Along Castle Peak Road, there are over 100,000 residents and the majority of them belong to the middle working class whom have stressful life patterns. Therefore by offering a safe passage for cycling it would be a perfect solution for them to workout whilst releasing pressure by spending quality leisure time with their families.
Apart from that, there is an increasing population for this kind of sport and this cycling track can serve as an alternative to the track from Tai Wai to Tai Po. Along “the Golden Route”, there are plenty of scenic spots and some of them are not well-known.
On the left of the route, there are breath-taking views of a beautiful seashore line, architectural bridges and interesting sea traffic whilst being immersed in the rare vibrant fresh air which is often absent in Hong Kong. There are aircrafts flying above and large container ships sailing across the harbour.
On the right, you can enjoy the gorgeous hillside landscapes and visit some long-established rural villages. You may even stop for a quick swim along the famous 9.5 Milestone or any of the other beaches along the way and be amazed by the magnificent Ting Kau Bridge and Tsing Ma Bridge. In terms of food you may taste the well-known roast goose and roast duck, or even actively fish for your lunch along the coastline. The Gold Coast area is a lovely relaxing place to spend your afternoon and a prefect end to the day would be to have dinner at one of the seafood restaurants in Sam Shing which serves fresh seafood.
“The Golden Route” links up several districts extending from Tsuen Wan to Tuen Mun. Not only will it provide a means for exercising and touring Hong Kong, it can also increase the flow of people along the route harmonising the residential facilities and districts by increasing the value of the area through improving the surrounding environment. It is hoped that the synergy effect would bring ultimate harmonisation to the society as a whole whilst improving the quality of life and the living environment.
There will be a campaign day on 26th August 2012(Sunday) of which details will be announced shortly.
