On invitation of Wen Wui Pao, both Ambrose and Heidi went with me to visit their senior management at their Aberdeen Office. Mr. Ouyang, the General Manager together with his deputy and assistants greeted us with their warm welcome. I did not realise that they were established by Li jai Shen in Shanghai in January 1938 with its Hong Kong version having launched on 9th September 1948.
They have a mini museum within their 150,000 square feet premises succinctly setting out their glorious achievements so far. But the incident of their editorial objection to the use of force in the 1989 Tiananmen Square Protests in 1989 was not recited amongst those exhibitions. Before ending the tour, I was caught by a pleasant surprise of being requested to write some remarks on their visitors’ record. So I just rumbled on about something auspicious on the record and disappeared swiftly thereafter.
