去多倫多參加ABA會議是一件很有價值的事情，雖然我必須得忍受15個小時的長途飛行。Carolyn Lamm 女士，前任ABA主席在談到法律的首要和核心價值的重要性是維護和保障市民的權益和權利。而現任ABA主席 Stephen Zack 就說，律師公會在世界國與國之間的相互交流與合作非常重要，瞭解彼此的做法和吸收彼此的經驗也非常有效。他很激動地舉例說，他知道在中國，這方面就做得非常的不錯。他總結說，去年在上海上巿公司的數目總量基本上就是倫敦和紐約的總和。他的意思是，哪怕是最能接受新事物的美國律師，他們也需要準備在未來的10到100年的時間內進行快速的改革。

Travelling to Toronto to attend the ABA conference was a worthwhile cause although I had to endure a 15-hour long haul flight from Hong Kong to get there. Ms. Carolyn Lamm, the Immediate Past President gave a quick speech on the importance of the primary and core value of the legal profession which is to protect public rights and interests. The incumbent President, Mr. Stephen Zack said that it was also essential for law associations all over the world to be in contact with each other so that there would be constant and mutual understanding as to what each other were doing. He cited as an example that he was extremely pleased to learn that the world in China had been doing real fine. The total number of listings in Shanghai last year was actually equal to the total of that in London and New York combined in the same period. He realised that even American lawyers who were so used to new things had to be prepared for more rapid changes in the coming 10 or 100 years.
