Visiting the Judicial Yuan at Taiwan
After attending the first day of the Presidents of Law Associations in Asia’s (“POLA”) seminar in Taipei, we went to visit the Judicial Yuan.
The full constitution court would be presided by a panel of 15 judges to hear a constitutional case. The constitutional court was established after the abolition of the military government in the early 1990s. So far there have been only six cases of interpretation of the constitution but even then they were decided by paper submissions only without any oral submissions.
This is a Criminal Court inside High Court.
There is a saying in the States that, “Government of the People, by the People, for the People. Here in Taiwan the Yuan says that, “Judiciary is for the People”.
