天后普遍被漁民們認可為是主管海洋和海洋氣象的女神。每年的3月23日，漁民們都會祭拜天后保佑他們渡過和平與豐收的一年。因此，
每年的天后寶誕活動會吸引很多的漁民參加。農村居民祈願和表達敬意的物品和活動為花炮、舞龍和醒獅表演。漸漸地這發展成了整個村的年祭活動，而不僅僅是漁民的活動了。今天，我剛剛看完花炮巡遊，我認為某些方面還可以做些改進，以至於讓這個活動變得更加有趣。譬如設置競爭規定，讓30多名參與者進行他們的醒獅表演比賽。花炮表演的設計：在花炮比賽中設置一定的規則，例如加插一些鼓樂和誦經的主題表演。除了這些，還可以在現場增加一些中國的戲曲和戲劇表演，增加一些熟食檔和紀念品店，幫助建立節日和狂歡的氣氛。
Tin Hau Festival
Tin Hau is generally recognised by the fishermen community as the Goddess in charge of the ocean and oceanic weather. Each year on 23rd March of Chinese Calendar, fishermen worship her for blessing them to have a peaceful and prosperous fishing year. Hence, the annual event of Tin Hau Festival would attract many fishermen to attend. Because of such a traditional and semi religious nature, it also attracts people outside of the fishermen community to participate. Rural people pay their tribute by presenting fanciful gifts called Fa Pao, performing dragon and lion dances. By and by, it has now become more like an annual rural event rather than a fishermen’s event. When I watched the Fa Pao parade today, it just occurred to me that certain enhancements could be made to the event so that it could be more fun, such as, for a competition for all 30 odd participating teams in terms of their lion dance performance; design of the Fa Pao; match for Fa Pao in accordance with certain rules; performing concerted drumming and chanting theme etc. Apart from those, Chinese opera play, food stalls and souvenirs shops may be installed at the scene to help build up a festive and carnival mood.
